CIS Partnership

Hi all

Has anyone had any trouble trying to verify a partnership lately, they (the partnership) keep coming back as unknown, after the initial verification I told my client that they were higher rate and that they would need to contact HMRC to find out why because sometimes it means they have not registered for the CIS, they did this and were told that they were definitely standard rate, I have tried since but still coming back as unknown done a few sole traders as well and they have been fine just wondered if anyone else has had any issues.

Cheers

I phoned the helpline and kind of got it sorted but just for the benefit of others looking in who may experience similar problems

HMRC have said that they have been having problems with the verification of partnerships, I gave all the partnership details that I had to the advisor who did indeed confirm that they were standard rated even though they kept coming back as unknown and I was told to try again in a weeks time to see if the correct tax treatment would be applied, in the meantime the advisor gave me a temporary verification number to prove the standard rating which will at least enable my client to pay the partnership at the standard rate instead of higher and to apply this rate on the next return even though the tax treatment on the return may show that  the higher rate should be applied.

Cheers

Glad you sorted it Doug, great to hear HMRC have their systems in order, once again.

You seem to have a hotline to HMRC....dead to think what that would be on a normal (rather than perhaps an all inclusive call plan) phone bill whilst you listen to endless hours of their hold music.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

 Hi Joanne

Just checked my phone and I spent nearly 90 minutes on the phone to HMRC last week and as you say most of it on hold, they really should liven up the music and then it wouldn't be so bad
