Should I hand write my marketing envelopes?
Permalink Closed

Bit of a strange question this one, but I'm going to start sending out letters to prospective clients this week. Does anyone know whether it's more effective to hand write the envelopes, or to print a label when writing the address?

From personal experience I tend to open a letter if the address has been hand written. My doubt with this approach though is that it may make my letters look unprofessional.

I would appreciate anyone’s advice before I commit to postage and stationery etc.

I personally hand write all my envelopes. I’m only a small business and I want to provide my clients with the personal touch. I don’t want to come across as being bigger than I am by mass printing my envelopes.

The only problem with handwriting the envelopes is if your handwriting is unreadable. I’m fortunate that my handwriting is pretty neat which helps.

Thanks for the advice Parker. My handwriting is pretty neat, so I think I'll go with the personal touch!

Cheers

I agree that the personal touch is best. Most printed envelopes I receive go right into the trash, but if someone takes the trouble to hand-write my address, I'll at least give the materials a look.

That's interesting because I always thought that people that send handwritten envelopes did not seem as professional as those that were pre-printed. I used to send our preprinted cards - but jot a personal note on the side telling people hw I got their contact information, to reconnect with old friends who might use my services etc.
