Quicken is the accounting software that seems to be most popular in the states, but it's quite expensive for a business start up. I don't want to spend/waste the money until I'm sure it's something that would actually be useful for me. Has anyone ever used this software, and if so, what are your opinions?
A few years ago the company I worked for used Quicken. We didn't really get on with it and subsequently changed to Sage. I know that Quicken has pulled out of the UK market now and stopped supporting the products in 2006.
You may want to look at QuickBooks, which I believe is popular in the US too. I think you can download a trial version, so it may be worth trying that first.
I would not give up on it so fast. Its a bit overwhelmin but once you get through the basics the rest sort of falls into place. Also, I have seen a lot of community colleges and community center type places actually have workshops to teach you the basics.
I think I'll give QuickBooks a try first, since it sounds a little less intimidating. If that doesn't meet my accounting needs I may have to screw up my courage and give Quicken a try.
