I am going to meet my potential book keeping client this evening. What sort of things i have to consider before taking on that client? He is in travel agency and money transfer business.
You basically need to gain a general understanding of the client and their business, in order to correctly indentify what services they require and the level of fees it will cost.
Try to gauge how many transactions go through the business each period and work out how long it will take you to process them. Then calculate based on your hourly rate how much to charge. You obviously need to know whether the client is VAT registered as this will have a bearing on the work involved.
A travel agency will have both debtors and creditors and they may require you to keep ledgers for both of these. What reporting requirements do they require each month/period e.g. basic income and expenditure, p&l. b/s or more detailed management accounts?
Also do they want their books computerised e.g. on Sage etc.
