Do I need permission to work from home?
Permalink Closed

Hi

Can anyone please advise me whether I need to get permission to work from home, as I intend to use a spare bedroom as an office for my book-keeping business?

Thank you.

Anita

Hi Anita

Provided you dont employ anyone else, dont have significant deliveries or many people visiting your property in connection with the business it is unlikely you will need any form of permission.

If you rent your home it is advisable to first seek the permission of your landlord. If you own your own home you may need to let your mortgage provider know of your intentions.

Ive been working from home for many years and never had any issues with it.

Anita you may also want to check your home insurance policy to check you are covered for business equipment and other risks e.g. floods etc.
