Valuing a bookkeeping business
Permalink Closed

Hello everyone.

Unlike most users of this forum I'm nearing the end of my bookkeeping career. I've built up a small bookkeeping practice over the past 20 years and I'm now starting to ponder life after vat returns and p35's! I know accountancy practices are bought and sold quite often, so I'd like to know if my little bookkeeping business is worth anything? If so is there a way I can calculate a value for it?

Thanking you in advance for any advice.

Demi

Hi Demi

The market for feebanks (your bookkeeping clients) is currently very good. The amount you can expect to sell your feebank for is dependent on the make-up of your business, and where in the country you are based. The selling price you may achieve will probably be between 1 and 1.2 times your annual turnover.

To get a feel for current bookkeeping businesses for sale try looking at  www.businessesforsale.com or www.accountingweb.co.uk/opportunities.

All the best,

Guy
