VAT on business vehicles
Permalink Closed

Hi
A friend is starting up a new business (limited company) and is buying a van.  I did think he could claim the VAT on this but could someone clarify this for me please....somewhere in my head I have this doubt as sure something happened where I couldnt claim VAT before.    If he leases the vehicle instead can he claim VAT on the lease payment / part claim VAT?  thanks

He should be able to claim VAT. When he sells it on he will have to account for VAT.
As for leasing, there is a 50% block on VAT to account for private use but maybe someone else could clarify this furthur as if the van is 100% business use then maybe can claim the full amount?
