Hi does anyone have any experience of doing probate accounts, I've got a chance of a few months temping work for a firm of solicitors doing probate accounts. If anyone has some info on this it would be greatly appreciated.
Although I'm now working as a bookkeeper, I qualified as a legal executive with a medium sized law firm. I trained in the probate department and worked mainly on share valuations and finance charges.
It's very different to bookkeeping, but at the time I found it both interesting and challenging. It's also a good albeit basic grounding in inheritance tax if you ever decide to specialise. You'll probably spend your time contacting local registrars, councils, other solicitors, accountants, banks and stockbrokers for information. A side benefit is that you will make some useful contacts for the future.
