Becoming a Payroll Agent

Hi, I was just wondering do you need to have a qualification in order to become a payroll agent.

I have been doing payroll for 8 years as an employee within an accountants, but I'm interested in offering a payroll service as part time self employed. I don't however have any qualifications, just experience.

I want to be able to process payroll and file online etc for clients. Would this be allowed?

Hi Morgwick,

Yes you are allowed. As you probably know, it's a good idea to get your clients to complete a 64-8 so you can contact HMRC on their behalf to resolve any problems.
