icb level 2 computerised & sage

Hi

If you do the computerised icb exams, you have to use sage, but once you have qualified are you limited to using sage?  or are you qualified to use any computerised book keeping programme?

thanks

LJ

Hi LJ,

The ICB does not stipulate on your certificate that you must and only use Sage so therefore any computerised programme you feel happy with is OK.

I would suggest that you perhaps demo other programmes such as Quickbooks and MS Accounting just to see how they differ from Sage as if you intend to go into practice yourself, you will come across many types of accounting programmes.  But really, they are all very much the same, if you can handle Sage, you can handle any programme !

thanks for the advice julie, much appreciated!

Also, does anyone know of a book that would teach me all i need to know to do the level 2 computerised? I'm currently doing level 1 manual by teaching myself using practical book keeping from ICB.

Thanks

LJ

Hi LJ,

Osborne books do a good book called `Computer Accounting - 2nd Edition`
www.osbornebooksshop.co.uk its based on Sage so you would need to get hold of a copy, you can usually pick up a cheap version of Sage from Amazon or Ebay !

Hope this helps,

Julie

Thanks again julie!

can you do the exam with sage instant accounts? i know thats the cheapest one! my mum is thinking of buying a copy of it for their business, can i do the exam in practise mode or does it have to be done in 'proper' mode if that makes sense?!

Hi,

Yes you can, as long as you have Sage instant accounts installed on your pc, the exam paper comes with a cd which you will need to restore onto your existing Sage, it has the basic elements already installed for you to complete the exam.
