Whats the best advertising you've done?

Just like the title says.  I've noticed from my welcome post that many of us are in the same boats starting out, so to everyone who has been going for a wee while.  Whats the most worth while advertising/promotion you've done, and what advertising got you your first real client?

Kris

I paid about £85 to advertise in my local weekly free newspaper for six weeks and I didnt get a single call. I have had fliers up in local markets, shops and post offices and have had about three enquiries from here but none of them led to work. The best response that I have had is on EBay and that is how I found my first client. The next step for me I think is a mailer to local accountants in the area.

Like Terri, I also have had an advert in the local free paper which was a complete waste of money. I have cards up in the local shops and I sent a flyer and letter to about 35 local small businesses but got nothing from that. I have done as many free listings on the internet as I could find.- But beware this is always followed by a call from someone trying to upgrade you to their expensive paying service which of course you would be mad not to take them up on, lol. I have also my ad on Ebay. I have had a couple of enquiries from an ad on Gumtree, which came to nothing. I also placed a message on my local Netmums noticeboard (they have a lot of work at home mums posting on there). There is a lot of messages posted on the noticeboard so you don't stay on the front page for more than a day but neverless I had 7 click throughs to my website and one enquiry. This lady is going to get back to me after the bank holiday, so fingers crossed.

I had a phone call the other day from a local golf club asking me if I would like to have an advert on the back of their beer mats! But then she said it would be £600 for 2years I politely declined.

A question for Terri.

You said you advertised on Ebay, can you explain a bit more and how this works.

Thanks.

Nigel.

You can basically type in your contact details and your advertisement as a Local Service. If you dont do anything fancy with photos (you can have one for free) or anything additional with your title (such as a priority advert) then its free to advertise for 28 days. I have had a few enquiries via Ebay. People dont bid on your advert, they just use your contact details on there to contact you or send you a message via Ebay.

Is there anything else that you need to know? If so, give me a shout.

Terri

This actually sounds quite interesting. So Terri, if I understand you correctly it's free for 28 days? What about after that?

Sounds like a no brainer, free advertising.

A basic advert is free - you can add more to it such as a priority listing where your advert is always one of the first in the list on the first page, several photos, an advanced header etc, butI use the free one and I have had a few enquiries. After 28 days you just relist it, and the best thing is that you can amend your advert at any time
