New Participant: Query about IAB or ICB Level 3 Comp v Manual Bookkeeping-Which?
Permalink Closed

Hi!

Just found this forum accidentally and it seems very useful and mutually supporting. I wish to return to work after some years off due to ill-health.

I Am about to take a Sage exam [C&G level 2 comp. accounts] but the course content is very underwhelming, amounting to no more than data entry.

I have an accounts background, so am looking at level 3 IAB or ICB, but don't know which to take, or whether I should take both manual and computerised exams. Do pepole have ideas which might help?

I have tried to ask colleges and training providers without much help. Also which is better: IAB or ICB? Or should I do one institute's exams and apply for full exemption from the other.

Thanks.

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

Would say it is handy to have manual and computerised. With ICB you have to do level 1 and 2 before you can do level 3. I am not sure about the IAB.

Would say worthwhile you reading the thread a few threads down titled What would you do?
as this has a lot of information on.

Alison

Hi,

If you are interested in either IAB or ICB then if you want nationally recognised qualifications then the IAB route would be the best one as the IAB qualifications are recognised by the national qualifications authority for the UK whilst the ICB qualifications are not. Also, most local colleges as far as I am aware offer part-time courses for the IAB qualifications which are alot cheaper than the home study courses. I am not aware of any colleges that offer courses leading to the ICB qualifications although someone else on the forum may know.

Steve.
