Sage Instant Accounts - Version 12 - Help Please
Permalink Closed

I received today a mock computerised bookkeeping exam paper and disc from the ICB.

When I try to restore the info from the disc  - I get this message:

Data has been found from a previous version of this program.  This will now be converted to the current version.

The screen then has a little pop up box afterwards that says:

Converting Journal Skeletons

And then nothing happens, I have left it running for over an hour as the first message said that it might take some time.

I have called the ICB and they told me that its not something that they can help me with and to speak with my tutor.  I emailed my tutor and she has no idea why its not working.

Does anyone know why its not working

Thank you

Terri

Hi Terry

I used to have this often when I worked in practice. Basically Sage has locked for some reason and you have to shut it down, you may be able to do this in the normal way or you may have to do it through windows task manager (ctrl alt delete) and then re open sage in the usual way, it may say that you are already logged on and do you wish to continue, say yes.
You should find that the data for the restored company is there, if not you will have to restore again and hopefully it won't happen again.

Hope this helps but please ask if you need any more halp.

Regards
Mark

Thanks, I've tried that and the info has downloaded but when I try to add an invoice I get a box come up saying Open File - Waiting to open file FUNDIDXDTA and the screen freezes and the file seems to load and load but never finishes - it gets to the end of the bar and then starts again.

I have looked in the file maintenance problems report and there are 2 errors - file size is incorrect and 71 warnings generated - Foreign Gross Amount in header 1-71 disagrees with net and tax in header

Could this be anything to do with it?

Hi Terri

Have you sorted out your sage problem yet?

If not try googling sage forums, this site I go on and find the answer to most things (sometimes technical IT side of things, one time I had customer pc because it has changed to america setting by accident it was not letting me type in any form of date in any of the supplier, customer or banking screens and someone had a solution to this even and how to change the settings of the computer to english and to make it remember them, customer pc kept defaulting back to american constantly.

Thanks Alison, I will try that today.

Denise that would be great if you would do that for me. I will look on the forum today like Alison suggested first but if not it might be my disc? Could you please tell me how you restored the disk? I restored from my G Drive (the disc) and loaded something called backup 002. I tried loading up 001 but there was one one customer and one supplied on that one. Did you manage to restore it ok.

I am just panicing a bit now as I looked through the mock paper and there wasnt anything on there that I thought that I would struggle with so I called the ICB and ordered the exam which is being issued today. I am worried that it might arrive next week and I wont be able to do the exam.

Hi Terri,

No problem, I will send you the disc if you pm me your address.

Mine restored with no problems, also the actual exam restored ok. It sounds like the disc, I can't remember what the actual backup was called but I think there was only one back up on the disc and a pdf or word document with a trial balance, I am at work at the moment so I will have a look at the disc when I get home, but I just followed the instructions on the sheet that came with it.

Don't panic, I will send my disc straight out to you and you get 2 weeks to do the actual exam.

HI Denise

That is really nice what you are doing for Terri. It is nice to find a forum where people are nice to each other and helpful, there are quite a few forums where there arguing and people insulting each other so it is nice to read forum where people are helping each other.

I went onto a Sage forum as suggested by Alison and a lady there sorted it out for me - so I can now do my mock level 2 computerised exam and the real one later on in the week when I get the disc to go with my paper.

Thank you to Denise, Alison and Mark for your help

Terri
