I just had to shout about this. After much hard work I have finally got my website to 3rd place on google for the search terms "fixed fee bookkeeping" and "fixed fee bookkkeeper"

Lor - to answer your question sheer determination. Someone once asked Alison, Terri and I on this forum if we "expect to win clients finding you on using Internet searches?"
From then I decided that yes, I would so learned as much as I could about search engine optimisation as I could, and with a few simple changes and some waiting around for google here I am.
I found that it's really not as difficult as some people would have you believe. The other thing Lor is that having had a look at your site, Fixed Fee is not one of your keywords. Is this something you want to be found by?

Glad you have done that, will show the person who told everyone that you can't win clients from internet searches that they were wrong in their assumptions.

Well done Kris on this.
Unfortunately getting to the top of a google search isn't going to pay the bills. This is different from winning clients from internet searches as Alisons post would suggest but a good start anyway.
Be sure to keep us informed of how many clients you win from this.
I hope that it brings in some extra money for you. I google everything like I'm sure many other people do so I can't see how you wouldn't get a extra client or two from it. Let us know how you get on with it.
I know that 2 of my clients have come from google, I have had my first referral this week! - it's funny but good how quickly things are moving - with out really having time to reflect, because it happens so quickly then you haven't got time to think and you literally "have to crack on with it!" so to speak - I keep pinching myself to see if this is really happening, and I was only dreaming of this about a year ago!!!!!!

Had a look at your web site and am very impressed. Well designed and contemperary. (One minor point, your copyright at the bottom has spurious symbols in it)
Is it all you own work? If so what publishing/ design software are you using?
Let us know if you update it or come up with other ideas you want to share (don't worry, not looking to plagiarise your ideas)
Thanks for pointing out the copyright issue. With regards to your questions, I had some of the design work done for me by a designer friend. But I then coded the website myself.
I generally use notepad, as I find it's easy to make the page layout exactly as I want it. Obviously if you're starting out then thats not ideal. Are you thinking about a website yourself, or do you already have one?

I have "tinkered" around with a web site using MS Frontpage 2000 but am not very happy with its graphical design, its very bland so I am re thinking my strategy.
I have been quite successful getting to or near the top of Google for my broad geographic area, using various search criteria (although thats subjective) but hey, I'm not looking for world domination.
Something told me you were into direct coding! The copyright symbol is OK now
