If you take on a client who runs six or seven different businesses at different addresses, would you need proof of the address for each business or could you just obtain proof for the main trading address. I am thinking that I would need proof for each business, plus for each owner but just wanted to double check
I think I would want to ensure that each business was legit so would want proof of each address. Are these Ltd or sole traders? If they are sole traders then you only need one proof of address for the owner. Are each of the businesses registered separately at HMRC and which address are they registered at? If they are 7 independant businesses then be careful if there is any inter-business trading.
They are a limited company but there are six or seven different shops, four are under the same name but then there are two or three that are a different kind of shop and so have different names. I will ask for a proof of address for each one. Thanks
Maybe it does pay to send out flyers then. I got disheartened when I sent loads out, costing money and time and got no response whatsoever. Maybe perserverance pays off in the end or it is just sending flyer to the right business at the right time.
The mailer cost me about £80 in paper, stamps, envelopes, business cards etc, and like I said, I sent out 200 flyers, to new businesses in the area so it took a few hours, but it has paid off for me this time, although other than this one contact, not had any other queries so I'm not sure if I would do it again, still debating at the moment whether to have another go.
I know that some people on here say to follow up with phone calls but I don't think it will help in my case. If they are new businesses and they have my details, then if they wanted my services, surely they would call and at least enquire about my price. I am a new business myself and I must admit, I get at least 10 cold calls a week for advertising opportunities (had one this morning), charity sponsoring, stationery printers etc and I get sick of the calls so I don't think that I would get a positive response from calling them afterwards, plus its more money paying out in calls.
If I was targeting established businesses, then I might have a go at making some calls.
I agree with you about the telephone calls, if you phone a new business and they are busy it can get their back up a bit, if you leave it for when they are not busy to contact you would say it is better situation.
Would say it takes a confident person to be able to cold call. I certainly could not do it.
I totally agree that you would have to be confident and thick skinned, if I did it and two or three people were rude to me, it would put me off doing it again. I am more a bookkeeper than a sales person which is why I went into this job in the first place.
I would say that one client out of 200 flyers is a really good result and worth the £80 it cost you, especially if they are going to be a regular client and it sounds like you will get plenty of work from them so you will soon recover the £80.
Agree about the cold calling, that is something I am not confident enough to do especially as I know how much it annoys me when people cold call me.
