Has anyone experience of any of the courses offered by Payroll Alliance (part of Lexis Nexis)?

We recently became a member and one of the guys is interested in studying for the Diploma in Payroll Management.

Hi

Ive never heard of this but, Im considering doing the IPP degree. Im hoping with my experience that I can skip their 1st year, but, wont have this confirmed until July, at least.

The enrol as well in the April, which would save me waiting until September intake. How much do these charge as the IPP is £2k/per year? included in that though is the free membership etc..

Lisa

Well yes it looks good to me as well, I never checked for comparative prices, it works out at about £2,500 for the two year diploma in payroll management.

Are you considering doing the Payroll Alliance course now then??

Regards

Paul

Yes, I may do. It looks a lot more interesting to be honest. The IPP do a lot of assignments based on work study. I work for an accountant & also I'm self-employed, so I would struggle doing assignments based on work as the payroll covered at accontants isn't in-depth as doing a large company payroll. I'd like to start earlier than September also so I'm swatting up on pensions & will go through manual payroll again as well. Where did you hear of these from? I'm glad that I come on this forum, it just shows doesn't it?

Hi Lisa,

if you think that your futures in Payroll there's always Compower (think it's Atos Origin Plc. now) down the Walsall road.

they're quite often looking for people with some Payroll knowledge on a temp or temp to perm basis.

Think the numbers are lot less now but when I was there the weekly payroll run was 320,000 so even if they've downsized it still definitely fits your assignment criteria! (they used to look after a couple of large companies. Believe that they now look after lots of smaller ones).

Hope that this helps,

cheers,

Shaun.

I did some work experience there, many moons ago (when word processing was just coming out), lol. Theres Ceridian as well in Hednesford, they told me that I was over-experienced and could I apply when theres a team leader position going, which would be good but, no-one leaves once they are in there as the benefits are really good. They sponsor you via the IPP as well, save me £2k a year. Like yourself Shaun, Im restricted to school hours as well so doing bits and bobs now as well as working at the accountants. Im swatting up on pensions now so I have a better understanding of it. I suppose theres nothing wrong with having a look around as Ive got to find a work-based payroll dept anyway to finish off the course. I just hope that this is all worth it, Ill be straight into the management level then when my youngest is walking home from school. We wish their lives away dont we?

Yes this forum is excellent.
I work as an accountant and we use Lexis Nexis for a fair amount of our CPD so it was just through that. Stuart has enrolled on his Payroll Alliance course now; so will let you know how he gets on with it.

But it does sound quite an interesting and informative course; I was also tempted myself!

Regards

Paul
