Hi, What a great forum, am hoping to become a regular.
I am currently studying IAB level 3, I already hold the AAT Level 2 but this was taken some time ago and was told today I do not need to sit the Level2 IAB exam which saves me some cash! I have also bought Sage Self study course level 3 (thanks to Shamus!) to refresh my memory as not used for a few years now!
I have worked in accounts p/l & mainly credit control for 10 years and am hoping to start out on my own once qualified as now at home with 2 small children.
Hi Pamela and welcome to the forum - I too am at home fulltime with two small boys so I know how hard it can be to study when you have your hands full.
Sounds like you have a great working background and your experience should help you when you are self employed
make the most of the studies whilst they're little! I thought things would get easier as they get older but they get worse.
When my boy was really little I used to read him to sleep by reading accountancy books to him but in the style of a fairy story. He was too young to know what the heck I was talking about and I got to study.
Then, when he was asleep I had hours of study time before bed.
Now he's ten and you virtually have to sit on him to keep him in bed.
I have learned that on school days he tries to stay in bed until the last possible moment so I now have to study from five till seven thirty as study time... Don't know if I take anything in or not but it's a gap that my boy hasn't managed to fill yet so I'm sticking to it.

Hi Terri, yes it is hard work I have 2 girls, 2 and 6 months trying to qualify before my maternity leave ends!
Will hopefully be worth it in the long run!
How long have you been self employed, do you find it difficult to fit round the children?
I have two boys, one is three and the other is 18 months old so they are a bit of a handful. I have been self employed since April last year and so far, I have managed to juggle my two clients ok but it is hard at times when I get a call in the day and the dog is barking in the background and the kids are noisy - I usually run upstairs into the bedroom and shut the door. I do think though as things get busier (hopefully) it will be harder. I guess my three main problems are occupying the boys whilst I concentrate, keeping on top of the housework in case a client drops by and the guilt of trying to work while the boys are playing up and I know that they want my attention.
I do believe though that bookkeeping from home is an excellent option for a parent with children and once my boys are around 6 or 7 and are happier to play on the garden and do more things for themselves, I think that things will be much much easier.
I don't envy you studying at the moment, I studied through my second pregnancy and just after my son was born and it was so much harder with the dreaded "baby brain".

Argh! Boy have you worried me Shaun - here I am oblivious, all happy, thinking that as the boys get older, things will be easier
Whats hard Terry is when they get older and approach teenage years they go to bed alot later, and I'm studying and thenhe comes in and says good night and disturbes me, then study till very late at night as now they are older I am a taxi!!!
Definately say when they were younger they wer in bed by 7pm so studied all evening.
