Welcome and good luck with your training, would advise you try to get some practical experience as well as the qualifications before starting your own business though.

Absolutley agree about the experience!  My husband is also studying the same, however he has a business degree in which alot of his modules contained accountancy.

This is a career change for me.  Currently a Nurse in the NHS working part-time with two young children.  My long term goal is to be a self employed Bookkeeper alongside my husband.  But i do want to take my time with gaining qualifications and experience to offer a dedicated and professional bookkeeping business.

Hi sara, again

You will find the flexibility of working for yourself as a book-keeper with young children valuable from a work/life balance perspective, but you won't earn anything near a nurses salary (my daughter in law is a nurse so I'm aware of the pay scale).

Thats exactley the reason to start bookkeeping- fits in with family life.  I work 2 days a week with the nursing giving me a good enough wage to live off.  Thinking of keeping the career in Nursing on the side whilst studying, slowly increasing number of clients with bookkeeping.

Welcome to the forum! I too chose bookkeeping as a new career to fit around my young children and it is something that I have no regrets about. Good luck with your studying.

Cheers

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the forum, i'm now based outside of Edinburgh but grew up in Leicester. Couldn;t wait to get away from the city to be fair but i know there are some lovely towns / villages around Leicestershire.

Good luck with your studies and just to re-iterate, practical experience is integral if you're planning on starting your own business. Why not try some voluntary work with local charities or clubs? Something like a buddy system for example.

Kind Regards

Neil
