French bookkeeper in practise. A good idea?
Permalink Closed

Hi

I am French and lived in London for a few years working as a PA. Temporarily back to my native country I m thinking of taking the Ideal School ICB Career Path before I m back to London and start working as a Bookkeeper then setting up my own practise.
I was afraid that being French would be a hurdle. What is the attitude to clients towards foreign Bookkeepers?

Thanks in advance xd.gif

Hi Vicky,

Welcome to the forum.

I don't think any right minded individuals have any animosity towards the French and with the oh so politically correct UK education system I think that most have no idea why there was ever an issue between our countries in the first place.

Clients want the numbers to add up. So long as you're good at what you do clients will welcome you with open arms. Mess up their books and it's not down to your country of origin that you get it with both barrels!

If your thinking of London as being your base of operations you should find it easier than most area's of the UK to find bookkeeping work although there are problems everywhere and issues over finding sufficient work will be unlikely to be down to you being French and more to do with there just being too little work out there.

Personally I have issues with incompetence, not the country that someone comes from or the religion that they have.... Although sometimes I feel like pretending I have because I don't like the government telling me what I can and cannot think (there you go, I may even be French at heart!).

Bonne chance avec tout ce chemin que vous prenez.

(Sorry, I don't really speak French. Just English and Thai. I cheated and used Google translate).

Shaun.

Come on Bill, I'm sure you should know this one (he is your namesake afterall!)

Hi Vicky,

Welcome to the forum.

I think if your bookkeeping knowledge is good and you provide your clients the service they need for their business then being French won't be a problem.

Hope all goes well for you.

Regards

Bill Wyman. Born 24th October 1936. Lewisham, London, England.

Think that your barking up the wrong tree with that one.

Give in. Come on Rob. Give us the answer. Google's no good at all for this. The only French rock star it's found is Johnny Halliday and apparently he's now changed his nationality to Belgian so he doesn't count.

Et felicitations a Angela! Well done Angela, you may spend your two points in the Bookkeepers forum's point shop. Shaun has some old SSAP9 lecture notes for sale there!

Yes Shaun Bill Wyman is English but he got to number 1 with 'je suis un rockstar' I think. Next week I shall be asking questions on Robert Plant, Kate Bush and The Jam!

Doh!

Spooky. just revising (sort of) stock and long term contracts on my other screen!

More into Sisters of Mercy myself but quite happy to take the Kate Bush questions.

Right, stop this. Back to revision.

My musical taste (some may disagree over the word taste) goes back a few years earlier. Bill who? (No not the group). I'm more into Bill Haley than Whyman

Bill (not Whyman or Haley)
