Hello All

Has anyone ever come across AAS Training.  Has anyone ever used them for bookkeeping courses?  Does anyone have any positive or negative feedback on them at all?

Many thanks

Zöe

Hi Zoe,

I'd never heard of them but just looked at their website and I see they have available 3 chapters of their course to be viewed, so I guess someone could compare the quality of that. It made me laugh as they are setting up a scenario of a boarding school and the headmaster is N Wisdom. For those who have stumbled onto tax law, the Norman Wisdom case is very important. Maybe they are going for the slapstick element though?!

Just looking at the business package, and call me pedantic, but how can you trust someone to supply you with business stationery when they spell it 'staionary'!

Hi Zoe

I just looked at the site too.

I doesn't instill me with confidence, not least because of the numerous spelling mistakes. Just the perceived quality of the site would put me off (They offer a website building service, among other things)

Bill

Mind you, they are suggesting that the average minimum wage a bookkeeper earns is more than £30k a year and rising, so they must be good!

Hi Rob and Bill

Thanks for your comments. I had the same feeling about the spelling mistakes. If they aren't paying attention to detail on their site what else aren't they paying attention to? It just all feels a bit 'salesy' to me too although that doesn't mean their courses aren't any good.

The reason I was asking was because we are increasingly being asked about bookkeeping training courses. This isn't something we do in-house and we are looking for a company that provides quality courses at reasonable prices. Do you have any providers that you would recommend?

Thanks

Zöe

Hi Zoe,

they do seem a bit 'all things to all men' but like you say they may be very good at the bookkeeping courses. It may be worth talking to them, if they want the recommendations from youthay may send you copies of the courses and maybe offer a commission for any referrals.

And from the third amigo.

AAS looks to be the same address (and shares the same signage) as Christopher Perry & Co. Chartered Certified Accountants which nestles between a hairdressers and a Moroccan restaurant.

FPB.ORG that it claims to be part of is a well dodgy looking organisation that I've looked at their website and cannot see any point to their existence at all. (also looks as though their website was built by the same bods as AAS).

The contacts page is very strange. GB, Bulgaria and Uganda? Not exactly London, Paris, New York!

This could just be a case that Perry & co are branching out and they've shot themselves in the foot by doing their own website design. But, if they think so little of their own services why would you invest any money with them?

Certainly not the sort of site that I would ever entrust with my credit card details!

To be honest I'd give it a miss Zoe. Just too many things crying out that this is all wrong.

Shaun.

Thanks Shaun - I was wondering when you'd be along. smile

Who would you recommend for bookkeeping courses? BPP, Open University?

Thanks

Zoe,

quality course at a decent price.

Open University course B190. Think that it's £290 and it gives exemptions from the initial exams of most supervisory bodies.

The course is the same as the AAT ABC bookkeeping which comes in at £175 but with the OU you get support, a tutor and a sense of community whilst your studying.

Shaun.

Thank you Shaun - I'd missed the contacts page - Uganda and Bulgaria does seem odd!

I'm glad you're the Amigos now - sounds much friendlier than the grumpy old men - which I'm sure none of you really are.

Alarm bells rang with me when I saw the international standing of the business (even the addresses weren't formatted the same)

Did a quick Whois search as well. The registrant is AAS Group and administered by Paul Baron. They have 19 other domain names registered.

That's all my sluething came up with.

With regard to good training providers, I can genuinly recommend Ideal Schools
http://www.idealschools.co.uk/

Bill
PS only grumpy on days that end in Y but other than that, friendly

Hi All

I went to ITJobsWatch, the site whose logo is posted next to the graph of Bookkeepers' salary. There is no such category listed there. There are Finance, Back Office, etc. but not Bookkeeping. This leads me to suspect that it's a graph of something else and they've changed the title.

I don't possess a barge pole but even if I did.....

Cheers
Neil
