I've just been on the internet having a snoop around at prices and services on other websites. I came across Mazuma, which I have heard of in my AAT magazine before but I was wondering about their pricing, it seems very reasonable. Well actually not reasonable quite low, it is based on 166 entries per month though!! What do you guys think?

This is the package for the savvy business person!  Just pop everything into one of our trademark purple envelopes every month, post it to us and let Mazuma do the rest.  Your monthly payment will include all the services necessary for your business including all year end activities such as submitting tax returns to HMRC or filing company accounts with Companies House.

There are no extra bills or hidden costs and the payment is spread across the year so is cash flow friendly for you.

Prices start from £16 + VAT* per month for a sole trader and £55 + VAT* per month for a limited company.

Purpleforce includes:

Monthly bookkeeping service and management accounts;
VAT returns**;
Monthly payroll**;
Year end statutory accounts (if applicable);
Corporation Tax Return (if applicable);
One Self Assessment Tax Return.

*£25 +VAT one off setup fee required
**extra charge applicable

(please note the fees above are the minimum charge and are subject to change depending on your location and the nature of work involved)

What, have they now given up on mobile telephones and gold!

Bet they've got a load of envelopes left over and just didn't know what to do with them.

Only a matter of time methinks before they come up with "Fed up of your first born child? time to get a new one but the old one still lying around? Why not send it to us for an instant no obligation quote".

Just call me a tarnished old skeptic. (bah humbug)

Shaun.

Its not the phone people its a couple of MAAT's who have done it, they offer it as a franchise.

I just thought their pricing although easy to understand seemed cheap but I aren't sure whether 166 entries is a lot or not for a client. I'm leaning towards not a lot but that would depend on the size of the firm I suppose.

Hiya,

There's got to be some link between them otherwise Companies house wouldn't allow it.

The Mazuma that you mention can be traced back to Mazuma UK Ltd.

The Mazuma for mobile phones is Mazuma GB Ltd.

Coincidence?

I suppose what you really need to ask when it comes to prices is where those little envelopes are really going?

Personally I suspect that traced all the way back to source you'll probably find an office in India somewhere with the address in Cardiff being little more than a collection point.

Whatever their business model I think that clients invariably prefer to be able to see their bookkeeper / accountant.

I really don't think that this is anything that we need to worry about yet.

Shaun.

I wonder if 166 transactions really means 83?

Hello,
I am actually a Mazuma franchisee based in Cardiff South (there are two offices in Cardiff and the head office is in Bridgend) so let me try to set the record straight: We do not outsource to India, my clients are welcome to come to see me in my office and we have nothing what so ever to do with Mazuma Mobile!

If you have any further questions about Mazuma - the accountants,  I am happy to answer them by email.

Regards

Hi Ally,

It's an interesting idea - I'm wondering how you verify someone's identity if you don't allways meet with them?

Hi Ally, I hope you don't think I am being cheeky, but how much does it cost to become a Mazuma franchisee? As this forum is full of bookkeepers helping each other out, I am sure it would be of interest to some.

Hi, I'm also a Mazuma Franchisee based in Woking and just to re-iterate what Ally has said there is no outsourcing to India, we do all the accounts ourselves. I have met each and every one of my clients and I'm in contact with them on a monthly basis via email, telephone or face to face.
Mazuma have some of the best prices in the industry because we believe you should be able to have an accountant from day one and the pricing structure is positioned to reflect that.
Lucy Cohen & Sophie Hughes who founded Mazuma have achieved massive success due to the simplicity of their business model, cost effective pricing and have recently won the HSBC start up stars awards 2010.

That's great news Sharon, so perhaps you can shed some light on the costs of being a franchisee?

Hi,

The initial fee is £4950 plus VAT and a fixed monthly fee starting from £360 plus VAT per calender month.

Attached is a link that will provide you with far more detail.

You'll see something similar in the New Year from Crunchers, we are looking for bookkeepers who want to be able to offer year-end accounts/tax from a central accounting centre.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site, just registered. I've been reading the posts over the last few days. I am very interested in starting a book-keeping business or joining a franchise when I have completed my AAT exams.

I was just wondering if the MAZUMA franchise folk are earning a reasonable amount to make it worthwhile considering the low fees?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Elizabeth
