I have a bit of free time and I am just wanting to get ready for when I start to do self assessment returns for clients, they will all be relatively straightforward returns as obviously I will not agree to do anything I feel is beyond my capabilities.
Just looking at the list of software suppliers with products already tested by HMRC and just wonder what products people are using for this and if anyone can recommend one or two that are user friendly and not too expensive?
I am probably going to use http://www.andica.com/andica_self_assessment_software.html but I will also be looking at Zoe's suggetion of taxcalc as I have seen quite a few good reviews of this as well.
Haven't had any problems as such. There are a couple of little bugs that crop up from time to time (saying you haven't ticked boxes when you have etc) but these are irritating rather than problematic.
Overall, it is easy to use and would recommend it.
Andica is good for the money but if you want unlimited then go for taxcalc its about £100. You can just enter it on the bandwidths on a spreadsheet. Everything is done like this at accountants, it keeps you in-line of remembering the legalities. If youre good with understanding payroll ts quite easy, I prefer to calculate manually myself.
Just had a quick look on TaxCalc web site. The Pro packs are pretty expensive although unlimited. Looking at the Person Products the costs come down considerably with 12 tax returns for less than £60 which would seem more sensible for me this year. Do you know if the personal versions give you all the functionality of the Pro versions?
