Hi, just found out about this initiative, just wondering if anyone has used it and found it to produce a reasonable site. Any pitfalls do you think?  Comments please?

Thanks

Hi Carole,

i did go with them. you get a .co.uk domain for free, it might take some time to them to register it(your registrar is bt) and you can create a site using google sites, they will do your webhosting for free. not very professional looking templates if you don't like what you can create ( i didn't) you can redirect your site to somewhere else.
conclusion if you ok with redirecting, etc (technical details)then you can have your domain for free. i redirected my site one day after i got it to office live small businesses, they have more professional looking templates but if you want something proper get a webdesigner. at the end of the day you get what you pay for. be wise in the first 3 months you can't transfer your domain only redirect. i would tell you more but i got a nasty left hand injury so i have to type with one index finger instead of two :)
if you have any specific questions just ask me..

Attila

hi stu,

if you want just register with office live whatever random name (it,s free) try their web site editor and if you like it more you can redirect your domain to this free of charge so anyone types in your domain it will take them to your new site on your old domain name. you can redirect wherever you want but i only did office li e small business so i don,t know others. it is very straightforward. i started two sites none of them are finished yet but if you want have a look at them.

hope it makes sense,

redirecting is changing the name server settings (dns) so your address points to a different site.
