Do you mean which nominal code do you post the payments to? If so cr 2202, dr bank (1200). Obviously this will have to tie in with all the input and output tax for those periods...are you entering everything on from the start?

As Rob says you end up with the vat you owe or are owed in a liability account 2202 and you credit or debit this account when you pay or are payed.

You need to do your vat return then either manually transfer the amount owing or owed or you can use the wizard if you did your vat return using the vat wizard.

If you are just starting up on sage and need to enter an opening balance then I would assume you also need to input your opening balances on all your sales and purchases (4000's and 5000's) then OB on your vat control accounts and the double entry would be on your debtors and creditors control accounts.

Manually work out your vat input and output vat and journal the figure to either side of the vat liability (dependant on whether paying vat or owed) then as rob states either credit bank debit liability to pay vat or debit bank credit liability if you are being payed vat back.

As far as I can see smile but never take my word for it wink
