This may sound like a silly question but at work we use a program called MCS, a client rings up and has a query on an invoice and I put the invoice number in and up comes the invoice.
I have Sage professional 2010 and I trying to learn it, I know all the basis data enter etc but if a client calls with a query with an invoice how do I bring it up. Its probably very simple but this version im finding quite confusing.
You could click company financials and there is a search button bottom left, click that and have it set to where, reference, is equal to, then put the invoice number in as it would be on the system and that would bring it up.
Only other way I can see is to go to their account and bring up the activity and quickly search through for the invoice your after.

Whilst Steve's method would work your right, it is the long way around. Having done time in Credit Control this is one of the first things that I wanted to know how to do.
on Customers, go to the customer in question and double click on them.
Go to the activity tab and all of the customers invoices are listed.
Double click on the invoice in question and it gets brought up.
Simples.

Actually, mines version 14 so I might be lying to you!
Hang on, I'll re-install Version 10 on the laptop and then confirm how to do it from that version.

Once the search is setup it would be a quick function, however it would be nice to find a simpler search function and if there isn't one perhaps they should put one in.
Im the same working in credit control and we would normal service using invoice numbers, so with sage you need the account name or number in customers then go to activity select the select the invoice and press view.
Thank you both for your help I feel happier now just got to learn all the other short cuts know.
sorry for the delay Michelle, had to uninstall version 14 from the laptop before I could put version 10 back on.
Everything is the same (but in different places on the screen). So as stated before, customers, activity, invoice and your there.
I would go with this method Steve as it's easy to find the customer and then just drill down to the level that you want.
I'm sure that someone will now come in with an easier route to the invoice.
Shaun.

If you've got the invoice number then just go to invoicing and they're all listed in sequence.
From there either grab the invoice you want or as Steve suggests enter the invoice number in the search facility.
Personally I only ever use the search facility to filter. From a Credit control perspective I might want to know every invoice for (say) £110 especially when someone is swearing that they've paid it but it's not marked as paid on their account... I lost count of the number of times the cashiers at the site that I worked at received payment and allocated to the wrong account! At least filtering by amount gives you a starting point for tracking where it's gone... Unless of course the client is trying it on which of course also happens.

personally I still don't like Sage but it may be that I've not given it enough of a chance.
V14 is much better than V10 (Unlike Microsoft products that get worse with each new release!).
When working in Credit control I actually used SAP and when using Sage in my own office I just wanted to know how to do the same things in that as I could do in SAP.
It's all there but I really think that SAP is much better at it.... Then again, for the extra cost you would expect that.
I can absolutely agree with the marmite comment as I can see that people who have used this consistently and know the software intuitively would love it.
To me though it seems that the tool is the skill rather than the knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting. Perhaps I'm just a bit too old school as I believe that tools should be there to simplify tasks rather than be nightmares in their own right.
However, as I say, once you have mastered Sage I can see that you would probably love it.
And anyway, don't listen to me. On occasion I still do calculations long hand as I don't always believe what the calculators telling me!

Would like some thing a bit more indepth im passed the novice want to get more into it than entering client details and banking as I can do all that. Its the other stuff.
Think ive found another way if I go to new invoice and put in the invoice number, tab accross the invoice comes up. Its says "This invoice has already been posted" but im not planning on doing anything to the invoice so its just in the event of a query. Seems like the qiukest way.
There are two ways to "get the other stuff", go on a very expensive course run by Sage or one to one by an experienced Sage trainer who doesn't work for Sage.
