I was wondering if it is possible to register with AAT and sit the exams whilst bypassing a learning provider. I have bought some good AAT (Kaplan) books from amazon and have done some past papers included in the books for unit 5 and 6 and now feel confident enough to sit an exam for unit 5. I was originally intending to sign up with Kaplan for a home learning course but am now wondering if I could simply apply for my exams directly with AAT.
There are a couple of threads on the go at the moment in relation to the changes happening to the AAT qualification.
Unfortunately non of us will know the full facts until mid June.
Keep your eye on Steve's (Rhianach) posts as he's chatting with them directly at the moment and has promised to keep us all updated about the going direct option once they start giving out more details.
Shaun.

Is it an exam or a simulation, you can't do simulations without a provider yet you can do the exams, consequently you couldn't finish the course without a provider, (unless there is a way when doing the nvq route that prevents you needing to do simulations i.e all work based evidence but you would have to speak to the AAT about that).
However as Shaun says there may be a possibility of doing the new syllabus without a provider, but people are getting different answers about this so we will all have to wait for an answer.
The AAT also has a Diploma route to the qualification. Its worth checking with the AAT whether the Diploma route is just exams based.
More simulations there as well. Difference between Diploma and NVQ is NVQ you can use your actual work examples whereas Diploma is purely a simulated workplace.
This is all by the by though as they are about to merge into a hybrid course which is looking likely to be pure assessment.
