Footballer's Reclaim?
Permalink Closed

Hi,  I have been asked to look into reclaiming VAT for someone who plays football, they said they have been told they are entitled to reclaim for the past 6 years? I cannot find anything on the HMR website if anyone knows anything about this?

Bet it was someone in the pub that told him that!

Is he registered for VAT?

Does he have the receipts for what he wants to reclaim?

Post on here the specifics of what he's trying to reclaim and we'll tell you exactly why he can't!

Shaun.

thought its was now 4 years maximum (increase from 3 recently?) anyways. Although if he has not been registered for the last 6 years then i cant see how you can move forward.

Can claim some vat on costs 6 months pre registration if thats what has been talked about. not sure as Shaun has said, details will be the key!

Hi Adi,

like the Avatar, can't think why!

You're right on both 3 and 4 years. It's 3 years + 1 which translates as the current year and three previous years.

Look forward to hearing the specifics of this one. Suspect it might be something similar to the situation of back claiming entertaining expenses that many people seem to have misread and misquoted.

As you say, for genuine errors you can go back but I'm pretty sure that this won't be.

Have a good one and talk soon,

Shaun.

i can imagine a footballers vat registration and his claim on expenses like a pair of new boots,etc...i am just thinking about input and output taxes, can't see what is a footballer buying.i am too little for this sort of clients. regarding claims i think you can register voluntarily and you can ask to backdate(up to 4 yrs) your registration what hmrc might allows you might not.

i would not be surprised if the client was thinking about overpaid income tax :)
