I just realised how often I visited this forum when it went down today. I think I had withdrawal symptoms - I was beginning to shake.

I was in a panic as well. I know there are other forums and I see the same names on one of them but I just wouldn't post on them. I can post on here as a beginner but on those forums I'd be ripped to shreds.

I've had that feeling as well. It is a good feeling when someone more knowledgable comes along and posts what I intended posting and knowing I was right all along.

Hi Stephen,

just give the answer that you believe is correct. If you get it wrong on here someone will tell you but in a somewhat more constructive way than on other sites.

I think that the major difference with this site is that we all help each other and there's no speaking down to people or being so up ourselves that we can't laugh at ourselves when we get things wrong.

I remember giving some tax advice on here in relation to fixed assets and forgetting all about AIA.

It's one of those things, you make a mistake, you learn from it. Nobody on here makes anything of it.

I agree, I don't mind giving advice on this site as you aren't shot down in flames and made to feel about as big as a flea if you get something slightly wrong. It's the best site for book-keepers. Maybe we should have some sort of strategy for if anything did happen to it.

Hi Sheila,

I agree but the problem we have is with posting personal email addresses on here which can prove problematic. I have no qualms about the usual suspects having my details but after last weeks fiasco with the closet ICB rep and the threat of being sued a month of so back for a line taken completely out of context I think best we are semi annonymous on here.

Should we all agree that in the event of issues we temporarily decamp accross to AccountingWeb?

I'll post a post entitled "Bookkeepers Forum Life Raft" and we can keep each other informed until we can come home again.

I know it wouldn't be good over there as acountants can sniff out bookkeepers like sharks sniffing out blood in the water. Also the name of the thread might give it away of course!

I agree too, I normally get it wrong, but it's all good. Someone soon tells me.

Also had withdrawals today. Was trying the site on my desktop, laptop and blackberry incase it was one of my systems.  Had to content myself by actually working... I know.  I was amazed haw much I got done when I wasn't stopping all the time to check this forum.

There was a thread on Moneysavingsexpert.com regarding this forum. That is another alternative.
ukbusinessforums.co.uk is another forum where I've seen familiar names.

Although, in all the time I've been a member here this is the only time I've noticed it go down so hopefully it won't be needed. Although knowing there is a life raft would be handy.

Hello,

I don't post as much as some of you on here but I have a browse every day to see if I can help or add to any threads.

I must have tried 5-6 times to get on today but it was down - was a bit sad thinking it might not ever go back up online again - Thank goodness it's all back up and running - that saying must be true, 'you don't realise how much you can miss something until it's gone'

I also use UK business forum business and finance, perhaps if anything went belly up we could use that as a contact.

Hi all,

I managed to attempt to get on a couple of times yesterday too and also assumed something wrong my end. I like the idea of a 'life raft' too but I think as forums go this one is well used so I'm sure the administrators will ensure nothing permanent happens to it. Agree with a lot of the comments on here, I too would never dream of posting an answer on AWeb, however reading the 'point scoring' arguments that goes on there can be amusing at times!

I'm in the camp of no one knows everything and its good to learn. We all learn from experience, including those know it alls and this site is an easy place to find an answer to something you think you should not be asking because you believe you should know it as its so easy.....did that make sense?? lol

and it gives me something to read whilst at my desk! and yes Shaun, I have no firends either in the real world!
