I was wondering whether my local colleges 'professional development award' was any good to become a qualified book keeper? (it says it is) it says it includes:
"Recording Financial Information, Using Financial Accounting Software (SAGE) and Payroll. This covers manual and computerised record keeping using SAGE software. The preparation of payroll records are cover both manually and using SAGE Payroll software."
I've been reading over the forum and am a bit bamboozled by all of it. Apparently AAT is the best bet to be employed as an accounts assistant? is that true to be employed as a bookkeeper? and is it a useful qualification to set up in business alone after gaining some experience?
Basically I would like a good qualification to gain work as a bookkeeper. Work for an employer in Australia for a year or so, and maybe come back, work freelance, and possibily set up a bookkeeping business. are the local PDA's at colleges a good way to do this? or will i need to add other strings to my bow with other courses? Your recommendations would be appreciated!
I checked out one australian jobs website and there are over 100 bookkeeping jobs in sydney alone!
As it stands, AAT is your best bet if you're looking for work in the UK. Not sure whether it is recorgnised in Australia or other countries, but it is widely recorgnised by employers in the UK.
It will definitely be a useful qualication to set up as a bookkeeper as well. There are other qualifications like the ACCA and CIMA, but these qualifications are useful if you want to go alot further and become a chartered accountant. They are widely recorgnised both in the UK and internationally.
