Does anyone know what requirements are for statutory maternity pay are please?
I am a Director of Limited Company and take a monthly salary of £450. Does anyone know if this amount is enough to be able to claim statutory maternity pay? If so does anyone know what you need to do to claim it, and do you put a monthly claim in to the Inland Revenue to get the maternity pay or is it when you complete the P35 at the end of the year.
I used to do a lot of payroll but for some unknown reason never had to deal with maternity pay so feeling really clueless and braindead now.
You may find the HMRC Employer Helpbook E15 answers most of your answers.
I have just had a quick look and you must earn at least £97 (Lower Earnings Limit) to be entitled.
It is paid at the same pay frequency as your salary, so if you are paid monthly then your smp would be paid the same, through your payroll by the employer and you claim back the SMP reclaim from the HMRC when you make your monthly payment of paye & nic.
The actual amount paid is, for the first 6 weeks 90% of average weekly earnings, then the lower of £124.88 or 90% of the average weekly earnings.
It is a bit fiddly to work it out manually as it needs referring back to dates but if you have payroll software it should work it out for you if you enter the correct information.
