Could I suggest a small inclusion in the etiquette for this Forum? The signing of posts.
Since this Forum is built and driven by real, living, breathing people - other bookkeepers and like-minded professionals - it would be nice if either a personal nickname or other "real" name appeared on a posting. Then we could respond with something like "Jane's got a point, there ... " or "Thanks, Chris ..." etc.
We're all responsible for what we write and this would emphasise the personal touch; reminding us that we're a group of professional peers.
Once or twice I've noticed responses from whom you might call "organisational members" stating their organisation's position, but with no identifiable personal detail attached. It makes the post come across as an assertion of fact, not necessarily something for challenge or discussion.
I haven't put this very well, perhaps, but does anyone else feel the same? It's good to know we're responding to someone's personal contribution, rather than an anonymous position statement.

It's not always the same person who posts using this username, so the signature as a default does not include a name, I guess I could get people to add their name when they post.
However, it's not really personal opinon, but more the ICB answering questions as the ICB. I guess you could still put a name as a representative though.
most people put at least their first name in their profile which you can always click before answering a post.
I used to have my full name in there but cut it down when we had someone threatening to sue for defemation of character (complete misunderstanding that got out of hand).
many of the stallwarts on here don't always sign, even I forget occassionally but generaly most readers know who we are.
For starters :
Shamus = Shaun Wella = Bill Semsley = Sheila BackOfficeGroup = Philip AttilaBenko = Attila Robh = Rodney.... Sorry Rob!
No time to fill out all of the names but generally I don't think that most of us tend to hide our identities, just the conversations on the site are often very informal and the messages can at times reflect that.
After saying that I do know what you mean and I have on a couple of occassions asked people what their first names are so that I can personalise my replies.
Right, that's my two penneth worth,
Shaun.

Responses are not meant as a substitute for professional advice. Answers are intended as outline only the advice of a qualified professional with access to all relevant information should be sought before acting on any response given.
I haven't found this a major problem as I'm more interested in the advice and guidance that can be given rather than the name of those giving it. That said, I find most people do put their names or like Shaun says, its a click away.
The views expressed in this post are my own personal (HRA protected) views, and are not representative of any organisation I have any involvement with.

I use the name "Peasie" on here because of the informality of the majority of the posts. It is the nickname I was given in 1986 and has stuck with me ever since.

Most postings are very clearly from personalities - often with a definite humour, too - and that makes them fun to read and easy to respond to. But I'll remember to make more use of the "click", in future, too!
