VAT on Car Parking
Permalink Closed

Hi

Does anyone know if Local authority car parking is subject to VAT

My client spends a considerable amount of time ( and money) parking  in london
for which he keeps the window sticker receipts but these do not generally bear a VAT no:

I gather from HMRC Website that private parking is vatable  but I can see no mention as to the position for L.A,s

Can anyone help

Thanks

Steve

Not sure here but I believe if its on street parking its non VAT but if its off street parking its VATable.

All about statutory duties and distortion of competition or something!

If that helps....

Again not sure if it helps, but usually the print out from the meter shows VAT number and VAT amount on the ticket if it's vatable.

Hi

From my experience if the ticket does not have the VAT number on it I count it as non vatable as you have provide this information if you are VAT registered.
