I work as a customer sales in self storage in a team of 3 (me and my 2 managers) but hate my job because my two managers fight like mum and dad going through a divorce lol, we have two stores open 7 days a week but as there is only 3 ppl running them I work on my own a lot.
Im looking to start a new job for the New Year but dont know where to start, I have a few good qualifications such as business studies GNVQ and business and admin NVQ as well as maths and English. I would says my maths skills are well above average but I think the job im doing dose not use my strengths as much as I would like and if im honest the money I get is just above min wage.
Any way im starting my Bookkeeping and accounts Lvl 1 C&G next week and I was wondering two things.
1.Is the city and guilds a good place to start and will it be recognised by employers
2.Will I have to wait intill I get the qualification before I look for a job or can I look now
Hi Lee, my sympathies. Employers tend look for people who are confident, optimistic, happy and fit for the job (and if they don't they are not good employers).
If you can show you understand what THEY want/need you will win them over far more than qualifications can.
However, if your interviewer (s) is NOT the boss (owners of the business) then they have to show due-dilligence (to their boss), which means you have to have the qualifications AND experience! Catch 22. So it depends on who you target for your next job.
If you pick a larger company, they will want more than C&G if you are pitching higher than your experience. If you pick a small business (5 employees) they will only be looking at you as a person.
