ICB Payroll

Hi,

I have decided to self study to do the ICB payroll management exam, I have the sage training manuals and was thinking of getting the AAT training manual to cover the manual side.  Would these books be enough to get me through??

But was wondering will I need to be a member with ICB to take there exam?? Also would I be able to get any exceptions as I already have OCR and AAT qualification in Bookkeeping and accounts.

Lots of questions sorry but I read some of the posts and got abit confused as to how to self study and still take the exam.s

I would imagine you would need to at least be a student member to take the exam. But why would you need to take an ICB Payroll Management. The only reason I'm doing it is, as an ICB (associate) member I am not allowed to do payroll unless I pass this exam.

Thank you for your reply Peasie,

I wanted to included payroll with my bookkeeping. I have just spent two years going to college and wanted to try and self study for the payroll with the qualification. Before either distance learning or going back to college to complete level 3 & 4 AAT.

Hi Michelle,

Peasie is right you need to register as a student (£45). You may be entitled to some exemptions from the bookkeeping side, best to email info@bookkeepers.org.uk with details on what you have and when you achieved them.

Why not? If you want to offer payroll you need to train, and if you have the skills why not get qualified? The ICB payroll is much more flexible and straightforward than any of the other payroll qualifications.

Thank you ICBUK,

Think I have now decided to go with a learning provider but am now trying to decided between ICB or sticking with AAT and doing the one they offer.

Will the ICB qualification give me as much as the AAT one, what is the difference in regard to content??

Hi,

I am unsure as I have heard the AAT have or are about to drop Payroll.

Do you have a link to the syllabus you would be studying?

@ Michelle,

The Sage Instant Payroll course is a good resource. Definitely worth the £57. These materials plus some time on the HMRC website would see you sufficiently well prepared to take the Level III Diploma in Payroll Management. I found that in preparing for the ICB Diploma in Payroll Management I learned a lot of new things - all via self-study. I got 97% in the exam, so self-study can get you good results. I spent a fortnight studying for the exam, so it can be achieved on your own, in a limited time (which is my preferred way of doing exams).

ATB,
GrahamG

I am using a book as well as Sage for Payroll study - Payroll Manual and COmputerised by Dympna Dolan (ISBN 978-0-7171-4382-5) which I bought from Amazon. It has worked exercises and worksheets which I find particularly helpful.

Meant to also say that one is for my Irish payroll potential customers - also using 90 minute Robert Leach book for the UK stuff...

which is probably what most on here will want anyway - DOH!
