Study from home Sage Course / Employment advice
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone, new member.

I am currently eager to gain employment in bookkeeping / accountancy. I have no working experience at all; I have successfully completed OCR Level 1 Bookkeeping and OCR Level 2 Accounting and want to study for the Sage qualification from home.

I am having trouble finding a company who offer training with the full version of the sage program, (ie. not a time limited version) so that I could use it should I want to become self employed in the future. Could anybody point me in the right direction? I am a bit reluctant to buy the full program seperately, as well as paying for the tuition.

Secondly, I don't know anybody who works in bookkeeping/accounting and it would be good to get a little advice about what kind of job role i could expect to apply for with the qualifications i have; there seem to be various job titles which is causing me a bit of confusion.

I have done:
OCR Level 1 Bookkeeping (manual)
OCR Level 2 Accounting (manual)

Once i have gained the sage qualification, what kind of roles could i apply for? I am also considering doing the AAT Level 3, what kind of roles could I expect to aim for with this qualification.

Many thanks, James.

Hi James welcome to the forum.

Most training providers will only offer a trail version as it keeps the cost of the course down, and as a lot of students wont buy Sage (either their employer has it or they will use something else), it saves charging for something they may never use after the course.

However, if you found a course provider offering a full version, they would only put their prices up to cover the cost of the software, so you might as well buy it yourself, I doubt you will save anything having it built into the course fees.

I'm sure if you post a topic on here looking for a Sage reseller you would find quite a few with some discount.

With regards to the job title, OCR is complicated in that there are many modules, but you get the qualification for only passing some. You can email the ICB at info@bookkeepers.org.uk with details on what modules you have obtained, you might be able to get exemptions if you have done the right ones.

Hope this helps.
