Hi All my friend has asked me to look over his charity accounts, they have been prepared by an accountant & now wants somebody to sign them off as being correct so I suppose in a sense he wants me to audit them.
My question is should they be audited by a qualified accountant?
I think it depends if it is statuatory audit or just to check(?) their accounts what is a bit strange if an accountant prepared them should sign them off,too... I would think if it is statuatory audit it should be done by a registered auditor. Anyway if you are not a chartered accountant and it is not you who did the accounts I don't see how could you sign them off. You are not qualified to do that or are you?
Depends what you mean and the size of the charity, whether or not it is a ltd company, whether it's accounts for HMRC or Charities Commission? I do work for a couple of charities which are ltd companies and their a/cs are signed off by their respective accountants who file with Companies House and HMRC, I then use the information to file with Charities Commission.
No I'm not a qualified accountant or a member of ICB/IAB. the charity is limited my guarantee.
I think it's just a check for the charities commission. appologies my mistake I've taken a look at the files and they haven't been done by an accountant the year end has been put together by the management committee.
Hi Beverley, this is a round-up of SORP I did that you will probably find useful. I did it a couple of years ago, so you will need to check the thresholds for 2010. http://www.accountz.com/baz/bazforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=611&p=2477&hilit=sorp#p2477
