I am studying the Level 3 Manual Bookeeping Exam with Kaplan Financial and am hoping to sit the exam by the end of the year. What I wanted to ask is if anyonew has sat the exam recently?
When I sat the Level 1 and 2 exams everything was on paper including workings and it all got passed in for marking. As I understand it this isn't the case any more, the exam is on a computer and you have a small whitebaord for your question workings which is not part of the marking.
Can anyone fill me in on what to expect? How are the questions scored if they don't include the working? Do the questions include a Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet template? I know I can buy a mock exam paper from the ICB but that is £10 and it only gives me one chance to complete the exam.
Thanks for all replies in advance, any insight would be appreciated.
I'm also preparing for L3M. The exam has to be booked through Pearson Vue and taken at one of their test centres, which means format will be as per L2M exam which I also sat recently at a PV centre. Is all done via mouse and keyboard input. From memory, question types will be a mixture of: - multiple choice selection - yes/no or true/false answer - typing figures/answers into spaces in single boxes or into various skeleton account layouts on the screen.
Yes, you are given a wipeboard for your workings but workings are not part of the exam input. I think this format is very user friendly and means you don't have to remember how to layout or structure your answers - you just need to know how to work the figures out. Multiple choice always gives you a chance.
I've never tried the mock exams, I would hope it is in the format I describe so if you are worried, maybe try the mock when you feel ready to try the real exam. I do suggest you download one or more past papers to work through at your own pace, are not in the new exam format but do give you an idea of the level of knowledge you are expected to have. They are £5 each to download and are well worth the investment in my experience.
Good luck
ps re posting in wrong forum, I only ever look at "recent posts" when I sign in (others too?), new posts always get picked up that way
Thanks very much for the reply. I will definitely get the mock exam papers, one of the problems i always have with exams is reading the questions correctly.
Good luck with Level 3! Let me know how you get on.
Update for you. I just passed this exam and CAN say that doing the mock exam is definitely worth the time and £10 cost, I did it week before the real exam and scored 89% which really boosted my confidence. Like the real exam, the mock is timed to 2 hours and content is about same as real exam so good practice.
You only get one go at it live but do get a report showing how it is marked and exactly where you lost marks. You can view the report any time by logging in to ICB web site.
Equivalent for the L3 Computerised exam is the past paper downloadable for £5 from ICB.
