I am starting up a new book-keeping business, and am worried that when I drum up the confidence to actually see someone I will forget what info I need from them, is there a checklist type thing available that anyone is aware of? Cheers, Jo
Just received your email requesting checklist - Will email it later when Im back in office, currently out and about working on-site today and left my memory stick at home with my template on it !!

PS - just a thought, if anyone else would like a copy just drop me a line on :- jbservice88@yahoo.co.uk
Its nothing particularly special, but it helps me remember what to ask for when meeting clients !

here's a list of main things I would ask for to begin with.
Sales Invoice Purchase Invoices Petty Cash (if they run one) Bank Statements for all accounts they have Credit Card Statements Cheque Books Paying in Books Copy VAT returns (if VAT registered) Payroll Records (useful for reconciling figures or if your doing payroll) Copy Hire Purchase or loan agreements and statements.
This gets me off to a good start, and if I need anything else I will just ask for it.

Thanks, yes Im back, have been away for a while but do dip into the forum from time to time to see what is going on.
Unfortunately Ive had to make the move back into full time employment but still keeping my bookkeeping going on albeit on a smaller scale. The recession has hit hard and even the Accountants who have previously outsourced work to me have been hit. This has had an impact on the amount of work I recieve and with a run of `clients` wanting something for nothing it has been difficult;
So its back to 9 - 5 for my day job and buring the midnight oil on the self employed front !
