Results from Self Assessment Exam
Permalink Closed

Well, just got the results back.  Now in deep depression, I got a partial.  Not sure what that even means.  I'll need to call tomorrow.

Kris

Ah, too quick to post there.  It seems ICB are open and I've just been told I just need to correct some minor errors and return it.  Happy again.

Hello,
I've just posted mine off so waiting patiently to see what result I get.

Congratulations I found this one quite tricky so fingers crossed I'll be ok. At least getting a partial you can make the amendments and re submit.

You don't have to re-do the exam or anything like that - just indicate on a separate sheet of paper that you know where the mistake was and what the correct answer is.

Just remember and include the cheque for £25 when you re-submit. I forgot all about it as I'm not used to writing cheques - everything I buy these days is either by debit card/ credit card/internet banking. The morning after I submitted I realised I had left the cheque out and phoned them up and paid it by credit card over the phone.

Just got my exam back. Tried to read the examiners notes, they're worse than a doctors writing. I may need to find a pharmacy to get it deciphered before I can start altering it.

Is a computer too much to ask? or block capitals?

I made that exact same point. I'll have a search with the thread. I think James from the ICB may have raised this point with the examiners.

EDIT : Found thread

They managed to get the notes typed up and emailed them to me. At least being able to read them helped. Sent the assessment off, hopefully I've sorted my two stupid mistakes now.

Hello all,

Yes this point has been noted, we will type them up if you ask, and the exams dept have spoken with the examiner in question.

The future will bring online Self Assessment examinations using the ICB's assessment platform, so no scribble in your report :)

I wont say when in the future though as the Computerised papers are taking priority.

HI James,

Although I can see the benefits of such a system, it seems you are saying this is something for way down the line. I cant help but wonder if it's over engineering when simply having a typed printed report instead of a scribble would do, without needing to ask for it.

Hi Kris,

Well the system is already there, it's used for the M1 in the UK at the moment.

The education department are writing all new papers from now on to be online across all qualifications.

They have done Level I , and Level II/III manual for centre based. Next is Computerised, then Self Assessment.

With respect James, you're not there. You have already said this could take some time. My suggestion is that from this point on the ICB examiners stop scribbling on assessments and start typing and printing legible notes. This isn't rocket science as you have already said they will type them if asked, why not do this as standard?

Hi Kris,

We have several markers, some don't have or use computers. Think of aged schollars, tweed jackets and leather patches smile. They have been told to write more clearly though.

In 2010 I don't think for an organisation like the ICB this is acceptable.

I've got to agree with Peasie, especially as ICB are demanding that their member must use a computer.

It is up to ICB as an organisation to insist that its markers use computers. Accredited book-keeping awarding bodies have been using this for several years and markers were told their contracts would not be renewed unless they had equipment to the awarding bodies specification in order to upload results and feeback. I'm sorry but in this day and age, and particularly if they are marking computerised papers, they need to update themselves and if not find people who can.

Well done both of you!

Now all you have to do is register with HMRC as an agent to do SA's - good luck!

Well done Ann-marie

I pre-empted the result by setting the wheels in motion regarding registering as an agent already. I don't know why I'm surprised but you can't register online or by phone, you need to write. This from an agency that are trying to get everyone to do all returns online?

Nothing surprises me with government agencies anymore.

That must be something new as I registered online for SA - or are you saying you don't not even have a login for your practice?

No, I have a login, but I need to write to them to get my self assessment agent reference number to complete the online signup process. I cannot get this number by telephone or online, I must write to them:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/agent-codes.htm

This is the page they directed me to when I called.

Same here Phil, it was there as a service I could add when I'd registered as a vat / paye
agent. The appropriate pin was then sent out a few days later.
