New job and I'm terrified! This is long sorry!
Permalink Closed

I started my new job as a bookkeeper / payroll clerk a few days ago and have found out that I'm taking over the whole job because the other person is leaving. I have two weeks to learn everything such as bookkeeping, sage, sage payroll, autopay, Construction Industry Scheme Returns, VAT returns, CITB Levy and alot more.

I only have about 6 months experience of working in an accounts department and that was working with other people so I always had the opportunity to ask for help. I also have up to level 3 AAT and level 2 IAB but I feel so overwhelmed by the whole thing I'm panicking that I'm going to make mistakes or not know what I'm doing once she's left.

The pay is absolutely fantastic and there may be a company car for me very soon so after years of struggling this is an amazing break for me and I can't blow it!

Thing is I'm very rusty with bookkeeping and sage and I've only done payroll once before with someone else showing me.

Please help! Any advice or tips would be really appreciated. I'm determined to get through this and show them that I'm a good worker.

Hi there,

Firstly don't panic they wouldn't have hired you if they didn't think that you were up to the job. Secondly I'm sure they don't expect you to know everything straight away otherwise you would have been after your bosses job.

I have been on the Sage Line 50 course that Sage run, it's quite pricey but well worth it. You can buy a 10 day passport which makes it a bit more affordable and you may find that your work will pay for it. You do get some good sized user guides which come in handy too.

And yes this forum is great for that reassuring hand that what you think is right is actually right :)
