Where can I find and buy a VAT Guide book?
Permalink Closed

Hi

Does anyone recommend a vat guide book? I'm having trouble working out what has and hasn't got vat on it and the process of a vat return but I don't want to have to spend hours searching the HMRC website.

Any recommendations would be HUGELY appreciated

Thank you in advance

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Not sure how good this will be for you:

Thank you Chris, I came across that earlier, decided to get FL MEMO VAT 2008-2009 from ebay, a bit out of date but the rest of the vat textbooks are £40.00 plus.

Thanks for your help

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I would actually stick with the HMRC website.

Its free, it's well written and it's up to date.

A lot of the guides give you the basics before hitting you with the complexities and when it comes to expenses, accept no substitute.

Then again, don't listen to me. I read Audit standards for fun! (sad, sad man that I am).

All the best,

Shaun.

I have used the FL memo books - not impressed, just go by the VAT guide from HMRC which is free!!

And now that is all o the website too, so agree with Shaun!

Hi Rachel

Have you gone onto HMRC website and downloaded the PDF version of VAT700, which is the VAT bible. It is written in reasonably plain english (for an official guide)

It can be found at the bottom of the linked paged

Just what I was going to say, the VAT 700 is always the place to start, if it doesn't have the answer it'll tell you the leaflet that does. Or at the very least skirts round it in a slightly non committal way...
