Hi There

I am pretty new to this forum and also to the bookkeeping world

I am currently studying part time AAT Level 4 Diploma. The only experience I have is working for a sole trader then turned small limited company. I started with very little knowledge of sage.

I am trying to venture out on my own as a bookkeeper, being a mum too it is quite difficult juggling my time

I do sometimes feel that I am in over my head with not working in accounting environment, but would be interested to hear from you more experienced bookkeepers your experiences when first starting out.
I find it quite hard sometimes when there are bridges that you come across and there is no one there in your work place to get the answer from

I  love my job at the moment and am wondering how, apart from my studies, do I find the answers to the difficulties that I come across in bookkeeping

I would really appreciate your input

Hi Winkle

The forum is a good place to start with any questions you have.

You are not alone when it comes to feeling like you are in over your head, it probably happens to us all. Probably to do with the mind set of a bookkeeper, wanting everything just so (borderline OCD). When things aren't neat and tidy we get overwhelmed but just carry on and tidy up.

Welcome to the forum Lizzie.

Places like this are a good place to have your questions answered in an informal way - also means you have someone to talk to!!

Bill, Phil and Rob in one thread... It's just like old times.

Big hi and welcome to the forum from the other Amigo whose off playing at being a banker at the moment.

Not sure about my OCD being borderline Bill! Caught myself ensuring that all of the hangers were the same way around in the wardrobe the other day!

As th fella's say winkle, ask anything and someone on here will have an answer, and opinion or just a few words of support for you.

Talk soon,

Shaun

That isn't OCD - that's just common sense, isn't it? I've always done that.
I'll concede that it probably is a bit OCD ensuring that all the tins in the cupboard have the labels facing the correct way. It hasn't harmed Rafa Nadal.

Ha ha....OCD You've read me all over already! I was questioned just yesterday about ironing pants!

Thanks for all your your replies and welcomings, I am trying to get my head round the amount of work I have to get through over the next month, not feeling incredibly confident about it!
So if you wouldn't mind me picking your brains from time to time or more often??

I'm the only one in my office that has a clear desk policy...arrgghhhh

But then again, mine is the only desk the cleaners polish!
