I was just wondering if you are allowed to use the hmrc logo on your own stationery? And would I need permission to do so beforehand?

Also I would love to have my own logo but don't have a clue how to create one/what it should look like. Has anyone got any tips or know of any websites that create logos?

Many thanks

Unfortunately you cannot use HMRC or any other registered mark on your stationery. The HMRC mark comes under 'Crown Copyright'. Take a look on Wikipedia for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_copyright

I recommend using your name rather than some fancy logo. Take a leaf out of Tesco, Sainsbury, Boots etc. Use a legible simple font and keep the name short if you can.

And Beverley's suggestion of Vista Print is good. You can get your business cards free with them.

You can get good logos custom designed from about £30. Personally, and it is only a personal opinion, there is very little I would buy from vistaprint. With most stuff by the time you add up the extras and postage, its more expensive than you could have got in your local high street.

Vistaprint also only use stock images for logos so you can't get something truly customised to you. If that's what you want download the trial of aaalogo. But a custom designed logo is well worth the little money it costs.

Hi Kris, I was really thinking of the free 100 business card offer and simply using Suffolker's real name as the logo. That way the only cost will be the postage (a few pounds) and 100 cards goes far when you are just starting out.

I see where you're coming from Quentin, but be honest with me, how professional does it look when you hand out a business card only for the person to turn it over and see the vistaprint logo? They know they're free, you know they're free, and they're left thinking if he doesn't care enough about his business to buy cards he certainly wont care about mine.

Sorry, but free say's just that. "I don't care"

Business cards will cost so little to get printed, even if you scrimp on the logo. I'm sure a local printer will digitally print 100 for next to nothing and you're networking at the same time.

A logo will certainly do that. I agree with Quentin that a simple logo can be best. He outlined a few large brands but these companies pay a fortune for their logos, and it doesn't always go to plan. Gap anyone?

Good Luck

It's not even the vistaprint logo -

It's the "Business Cards are FREE at www.vistaprint.co.uk!

Doesn't send out the best image.

I personally dont use Vistaprint but I do know that you can download your own logo image at a small extra cost.

You can also delete the Vistaprint strapline at the design stage even if using their stock cards. It's just a text box.
