Retirement is fast approaching ( April 2011) and having worked in IT database development for the last few years and also as a hobby do web design, databases, etc.
I am also trained in Microsoft products, excel, word,Access etc. I am looking at a fresh start to keep me occupied. I own a property which I let out, so have a basic understanding of UK Taxes.
I am thinking of taking on a new challenge ( but utilising some of my IT skills) to learn book-keeping and you never know maybe suppliment my pension if I become competent.
I am thinking it may be an opportinity to work from home so another bonus.
After the long intro, to the question above "Where to start?"
I have looked over the intranet and luckily found this forum which i will explore.
From the experts I would be grateful for any advice as to which course to start with, (obviously basic) any preferred companies.
I am used to elearning and distance learning but there seems to be so many companies out there.
I am prepared to start my learning now before I retire so giving me 6 months which may be enough time to start do you think?
I appreciate your time and thanks in anticipation for any advice.
Being IT literate it would not take you long to learn how to use book-keeping software, however, it is not a good idea to just learn how to input data into a program and I would seriously recommend starting with a level 1 manual book-keeping course followed by a level 2 manual. The choice of which course is entirely up to you. Distance learning can be done for these doing either ICB or IAB qualifications. There are many distance learning providers and there have been many threads on here discussing the preferred providers both for cost and quality. I think people who have had experience of distance learning on here like Ideal Schools. Whatever steer well clear of Home Learning College.
Not really - take a look at both their websites and make your own choice. James of ICB is on here, I'm with IAB but really it's up to you. They both offer qualifications, they both supervise you for money laundering and have have special offers for PII etc.
