Hi Zoe

I am assumimg limited companies. If so you have quite a long time from year end to the companies House and HMRC filing deadlines. From memory the earliest date is 9 months from year end.

Hi Zoe

I can only think they mean sending them to their accountant in plenty of time to do the necessary compilations.

The accounts need to be completed to allow payment of corporation tax to HMRC within 9 months of the year end. The document filing to Co house and HMRC is 12 months.

Bill,

I thought it was 10 months for a ltd co to file a/c's - has it changed?

Hi Tony

Not aware of any changes.

The nine month deadline, is for paying any CT due for the period. The actual filing of accounts etc is 12 months

The above link gives a bit more detail

Sorry Bill, I thought you were refering to filing accounts at Companies House not HMRC.

Wouldn't life be eaiser if these things were unified.

Much easier, especially if they moved the personal tax year to the first of April and not stick to an archaic date from an old calendar confused.gif

Haven't sat my SA exam yet but I thought the revenue accepted 31 Mar instead of 5th April or does that apply to sole traders?

For clarification it is upto 9 months to get accounts filed with Co House, so uusally send to hmrc at same time. Failure to get in by 9 months leads to a £150 fine , then over one month late it goes to £375 over 3 months its £750 and over 6 months it's £1500. Get them inlate the following year and the fine is doubled!

yeah the filing deadline for accounts just changed fairly recently to 9m to bring into line with the tax payment deadline. The CT600 lodgement deadline has not changed.

(tony, you mention accounts filed in 12m, thats just the CT600, not the accounts i'm afraid - would be nice if it was!)
