Permalink Closed

Hi , I am new here need some help! Do I need to have a certificate of Compliance before I write to HMRC at Longbenton for an Agent code for SA etc?

I am a member of IAB and have sent of for a Cert of Compliance - but have an eagerly awaiting 1st client waiting for me to file her SA tax return! Just wondered how long I will wait for an agent code - I thought probably 6 weeks?
Any advice grateful

Have you tried to register online?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can access a filing only service with the number you'll be issued with on-line.

You do need the number from longbenton, if you want register as an agent for self assessment.

I personally had a bad experience trying to get a number (see my previous post) but others have had no problems

What you could do is submit the return as the client (get their OK first). They need to be registered online anyway. If you didn't want to wait, complete the from their login.

Edit: You can also submit SA returns directly, without the need to register as an agent, if you use third party filing software but obviously there is the cost to consider
