I am due to book the exam and was just wondering if anyone who had already sat it could give me some pointers as to what to expect. I've read that they send papers out to you in the post, you do it at home then send them back? Could you use the practise data on Sage to complete the exam? I'm working my way through the exams on my own, having lots of experience, i have just completed level 1 manual with distinction, but i have no training provider to ask the questions to, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. It's a few years since I did my level 2. For level 3 they sent me the paper and I set the company up on my software and just worked through the paper. If your using Sage study software I don't think you can set up a new company you would have to back up your data and then start again by rebuilding the data (Heard stories of people creating new companies and then it costing them lots of money with sage so be careful). Had 2 weeks to complete it and send it back.
Ange is right, it is scenario based, so you just go through the accounts of a fictional company.
It is non software specific, so you don't have to use Sage. There are some online packages out there that will give you 2 months free to do ICB examinations.
Later this year they will be online (March April ish), so instead of waiting for the ICB to post them to you, and you posting it back, you just download the files. When you are finished you upload them again.
Saves time, paper (you no longer need to print all the reports), and avoids things getting lost in the post.
Hi James For the purpose of doing the ICB computerised exams, would something like Quick Books SimpleStart free edition or Pro accountant which is multi-company be ok to use?
The real examination will be available via download from the 1st September.
The format is the same, just that you download the questions, and then upload your reports etc. Saves having to wait for the Saturday post and then print all your answers. You will be able to book and start the paper 24/7 (depending on your college).
We are testing the software at the moment, actually I have a meeting this afternoon to demonstrate it. So as long as I don't get laughed out the room we are ahead of schedule
Ive just started the exam today but im having trouble saving reports to my computer. Anyone have any idea what is the best file type to save reports using Sage?
I think Sage has a Save to Pdf function? That will be fine.
Alternatively you could use CutePDF which is what I use. It installs as a printer on your computer and you use it like you would any printer but it asks you where you want to save the pdf.
