Does anyone know if this qualification can be taken in it's own right with the ICB as a student member? I am interested in taking this in the near future but do not want to start at Level 1 bookkeeping as I already have other qualifications at this level?
I'm sure James will be along to answer your question. If you going to become a member of ICB fully, then I would imagine as its Level III, you would need to have passed the exams to that level.
You say you have other quals, so I would try for exemptions. If you don't want to join the ICB, I would suggest getting the SA bible and reading it from cover to cover.
Thanks P, I'm MAAT at the moment so would like to stay with them. I would not rule out doing the ICB as the examinations costs seem fair but would not do them if not essential.
A dumb question now ... What is the SA Bible? Is this the course book or another text?
It is available from HMRC if you're an agent. It is the size of a telephone directory. (An old fashioned telephone directory when they were thick volumes not the thin things they have these days).
There is nothing in it that you can't obtain individually (either in paper format or pdf) from HMRC. There is a form on the HMRC website where you can list all the guides/leaflets you want posted out to you. I have it bookmarked in Firefox browser but I've switched to the Chrome browser now and it isn't bookmarked there.

Thanks Peasie, I've got a few HMRC bookmarks building up now so I'll have to add those that you've mentioned. Due to your description I can understand why it's called the 'SA Bible' .
You would need the Level 2 qualification first, as the ICB believes you should not offer SA without bookkeeping knowledge.
However, as Philip says, your other qualifications may get you exemptions, so you don't need to re take anything.
Alternatively you could just read the HMRC book and start doing SA as there is no legal requirement for a qualification. However, if you are registered with a professional body make sure they will allow you to do that without a qualification.
Thanks for the response. It is not something I am planning on offering at the moment but looking into it as a future service. To be honest, I didn't realise how reasonable the ICB examinations were so doing the level I and level II may be the best option.
