Life after exams....
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone, Im just about to finish my latest ICB exam, level 2 computerised which will bring me up to the necessary qualfiications to get my practice licence. Ive never worked in bookkeeping and now have 3 kids so ideally i want to set up on my own doing simple book work. my question really is how on earth do you work out what to charge and does anyone have any advice on setting myself up? I know from using this forum for a year or more that some people on here have been doing this for years so if you have time to dish out some tips then i would really appreciate the help!

cheers folks :)!

Hi Fiona,

Certainly you need PI insurance and you need to read up on money laundering registration on HMRC for your peronal requirements. If you are a member of any professional bodies then check with them.

What you charge is the length of a piece of string!

I get between £10 to £15 an hour but have only just started part time a year ago. That is just book-keeping work not tax returns etc.

I have a couple of Accountants who pass work to me and I pass them anything I am not qualified (or insured) to process.

Keep checking old threads as there have been loads like yours that I refered to previously.

Good luck.

Tony.
