Self employment and mileage

Hi All,

I'm doing a tax return for a self employed person, are you legally allowed to claim mileage instead of fuel/repairs/road tax/AA/service etc?

Cheers

Hi Amanda

If the vehicle being is a personal one for being used for business purposes and the mileage that you have is only the business mileage then yes this is ok and probably the best way to do it.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes it is a private vehicle and also business mileage only, thanks. I just worried because the amount of milegae in pounds eats a massive chuck of their sales!

Do they need to supply mileage records if their books are requested?

Cheers
Amanda

Hi Amanda

Yes they should keep a log of their mileage as this is proof of the actual miles being claimed
